Tucked away on Commercial Road in East London, Sailors Sauna is conveniently located next to the White Swan super-pub, so if you need a little Dutch courage before you make your initial visit (we all know a newbie’s visit to a sauna can be nerve-wracking) you can pop in for a quick half-pint first!
Once you enter though, all nerves will dissipate as you’re welcomed into four floors of soothing, calm oasis away from the bustling City outside. Sailors Sauna boasts a relaxing sitting room to chill out and chat, before you strip down in the spacious changing room with 150 lockers. You’re given two towels on entry and can borrow pool shoes if desired.
First things first, there’s an enormous wet area, complete with giant ‘fun shower’ which is big enough for a whole rugby team to lather up and scrub down in. Excuse us while we just drool over that thought for a second! After playing in the wet area, you can then take a dip in their heated spa, letting the bubbles and jets work away all your aches and pains. No matter where they came from! Next, you can revel in their luxurious sauna and steam room, and if anyone happens to catch your eye, there are plenty of places to escape to. There are a number of discreet rest rooms to retire to, many with mood lighting and multi-channel TVs, or there’s a dark room if you’re looking for more of an anonymous thrill!
And if somehow you’ve still not got your fill, there’s a great deal more relaxation to be had. While away some time in the TV room where they screen episodes of camp classics, go to the snack bar, or, if the weather permits it, escape to their roof garden or nip out to the smoking area.
Throughout the week, they have a selection of theme nights and events too, offering discounted entry and much more. Every Thursday is Latino Day! Entry is only £10 all day if you hold a South American or Spanish ID, so if you have sangre caliente flowing through your veins, or you can’t get enough of the Latin lovers, Thursday is your day! For the beefy boys, there’s Big-n-Cuddly on Mondays; they push off at 11am and the galley is open all day for snacks with a free buffet, so jump onboard for an all day experience docking at 11pm. Food’s also on offer on Friday nights for their chippy night, as well as on Sunday, when the ultimate buffet is on the menu. It’s all included in the entry price and served between 6pm – 8pm. Go work up an appetite in the wet area, then freshen up in the shower and sit down for a home-cooked meal, maybe with some new friends!
