This year saw the launch of the world’s first LGBT rugby league team, the Manchester Canalsiders, and when they run out onto the field you’ll recognise a familiar logo on the front of their shirts as RoB Manchester has become the team’s main kit sponsor.
The landmark three year sponsorship deal will see the union of a market leader in the fetish industry with an historic moment within rugby league. Allan Smith, Manager of RoB Manchester, said, “RoB Manchester, as always, prides itself in supporting the local LGBT community.
This latest venture marks a new movement in collaboration with non LGBT organisations and we are keen to be part of it.” The official signing of the contract was held in March in Manchester’s REM bar and was witnessed by a large gathering of sports fans (and, we imagine few guys who just get turned on by rugby players).
Since then, not only have the Canalsiders made their television debut on Sky Sports, they’ve also received support from some of the most high profile rugby stars in the UK, the likes of Gareth Thomas and Ben Cohen!
Also behind them are the Salford City Reds and the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor Elaine Boyes.
The team are currently on the look out for new players and, whether you’ve played league rugby before or are new to the sport, the Manchester Canalsiders welcome players of all abilities.
