It’s that age-old problem. You don’t want to mess up your Egyptian cotton sheets and stripping the bed takes all the fun out of spontaneous sex. Nor do you fancy the idea of having sex on a cold and uninviting pond liner draped over your bed, the choice of many resourceful guys nowadays.
Well, worry no more as these new Fun Sheets from the Sheets of San Francisco are the perfect solution. QXMEN caught up with the Sheets of San Francisco’s Mark Boulton who gave us the lowdown on this genius new product.
QXMEN: So, why did you feel there was a need for Sheets of San Francisco fun sheets?
Mark Boulton: We looked at the other products on the market and to us there seemed to be a lot of downsides to all of them and we wanted to produce a product that we would want to buy. Firstly, the product had to be fluidproof against a wide variety of liquids. In particular, we wanted a product that was resistant to Silicone lube as people love the product but have real problems cleaning it up successfully. With our sheets it just washes right off. Secondly the sheet had to be seam-free on the top surface. To us a seam in the middle of the sheet is uncomfortable, unsightly and a potential point of failure and does not give the quality look and feel we wanted. On top of those key criteria we wanted to design a product that was tough, durable, looked and felt great and was light enough to carry in luggage. Judging from the feedback we’ve had to date I think we’ve delivered on all fronts.
Why are they better than regular vinyl play sheets?
Our sheets feel really great against the skin and being breathable, do not get too hot and sticky. They’re also extremely tough and durable and very hard to puncture or tear. We even have clients who claim to wear stilettos while using them, though this is not something we would recommend!
They’re called ‘fluid proof’ so we assume they’ll protect your bed from the inevitable lube bottle spills, spit and spunk. But are they suitable for guys into water-sports?
As well as being resistant to a huge range of fluids, the sheets are great for water-sports. Until recently, lots of guys would use things such as pond liners, but these are heavy, bulky and difficult to clean. Our flat sheet is particularly good for this as you can drape it over anything, anywhere. In fact, we’re a sponsor of Wet n Hot in Palm Springs, which is probably the biggest water-sports party on the planet! http://wetnhot.net.
We understand there are two distinct ranges? Tell us more…
Our Plus range is our real everyday, tough and practical product, although it looks and feels great too. But for guys looking for something completely unique and even more luxurious we have our premium printed range. This is made from a luxurious silky feel fabric and is printed with exciting high resolution images, yet it retains all the fluidproof qualities which are the hallmark of our products. Currently available in a bold leather strap design the range will expand to reflect customer demand. We can also offer a bespoke design service in fairly small batches to allow customers imaginations to run wild, or to provide a branded product for end users.
And is it just plain fun sheets in the range?
Our Plus range is available as fitted sheets and pillowcases for all UK, US and EU bed sizes as well as a large, versatile, flat throw for people who don’t want to confine their messy fun to the bedroom.
Do you offer a ‘made to measure’ service?
All our sheets are manufactured in the UK for the European market and in the US for the North American market. This allows us to be highly flexible and responsive and uniquely we offer a bespoke service, which allows us to accommodate special size or extra deep mattresses to special order. One client has requested a bespoke duvet cover, which is currently going through the factory.
Are Sheets of San Francisco fun sheets machine washable?
Easy cleaning is key. It’s no good having messy fun if it’s then really difficult to clean up afterwards. When you’ve finished having fun on our sheets simply bundle them up and put them in the wash on a normal 40 degree cycle… Easy!
And can you stick them in the tumble dryer afterwards?
The sheets are easy to dry on a medium tumble. A top tip is to tumble them with a small towel, which helps them dry even more easily.
We chuckle every time we see the name… Who came up with it?
The name came from a brain storming session lubricated by a few bottle of Californian wine. There is obviously a link to the 70s TV series, but the name is also easy to remember… Sheets are what we do and San Francisco is where the company started.
Last year, Sheets of San Francisco had stalls at Folsom Street Fairs and Pride events both in Europe and the States. Will you be on the road again this year?
We will be on the road in both the UK and US this year. San Francisco is our hometown so we’ll definitely be at Folsom again this year and will have a presence at IML too. We’ll also be at the fabulous Sexhibition (www.sexhibitionexpo.co.uk) in Manchester in August for certain and will look at other events as the year progresses.
Do you have anything new in the pipeline?
We are always looking at new things. On the Plus range we may well introduce a duvet cover and we will also bring in a white option later in the year. With our printed range we will be looking to add new designs and sizes and there a few other things we are thinking about, which will compliment and expand our range.
